I have been keeping a gratuity journal for a couple of years now. It helps to seek out the positive events in every day, makes me acutely aware of all I have to be grateful for, and directs my focus to what is good in my life instead of the shortcomings each day can bring. Only recently a friend pointed out that 'gratuity' means a 'tip', and what I'm really keeping is a gratitude journal. Slightly embarrassing, but now I have a new added value to explore in my life: I realize it is also beneficial to show others how grateful I am to them by offering gratuity.
